Tournament group draw wheel: pull each team into a group

Eight groups sit on the wheel. Call each team up, spin once, and the group the pointer lands on is the group that team plays in.

A group draw only counts if the teams can see it happen. This wheel runs in the browser with the group list in plain sight, and fullscreen mode puts it on a projector for an opening night draw. The sample wheel carries groups A to H, so trim it to the number of groups your competition actually has before the first spin.

How do I run a group draw with a wheel?

Each slice is one group. Call the teams up one at a time to spin, write down the group that comes out, and delete a group once it has taken its full complement of teams.

  1. Keep one slice per group

A four group competition needs four slices. Rename them if the organisers use their own labels.

  2. Call each team up to spin

One spin per team, read out loud. Go fullscreen when the draw is in front of an audience.

  3. Delete a group once it is full

Remove the slice when a group has all its teams, so later draws only offer groups with room.

Group draw questions

Can it keep the seeded teams apart?

Not on its own, but you can run the draw in pots the way televised draws do. Draw the top seeds first and delete each group as it takes one, so no group gets two, then restore the full set of groups and draw the next pot.

Why does the group stay on the wheel after it is drawn?

Because a group holds several teams, unlike a draw that picks one winner. You delete the slice yourself when a group is full, which leaves you in charge of how many teams each group takes instead of the tool deciding it.

Where does the finished draw live?

The results tab keeps the spins in the order they happened, and the copy button hands you the lot for the fixture announcement. Sign in and save the wheel if you want the same group list next season.
