Secret Santa draw wheel for a team or a group of friends

Each person spins once and remembers the name they drew. Remove after win is already on, so no name comes out twice.

A paper Secret Santa draw runs into the same two problems every year: somebody pulls their own name, and the organiser ends up knowing everything. The wheel solves the first and part of the second, since a drawn name leaves the wheel and each person reads their own result before passing the phone on. The sample list holds twelve names; replace it with your group before you start.

How do we run a Secret Santa draw?

Enter everyone's name, then pass the device round so each person spins once and reads their own result. Drawn names leave the wheel, so nobody doubles up.

  1. Enter the group

One name per line. Leave off anyone who is not taking part this year.

  2. Pass the device round

Each person reads their own result and closes the panel before handing it to the next.

  3. Redraw if you get yourself

Put your own name back on the wheel and spin again, or swap with whoever draws last.

Secret Santa draw questions

What if someone draws their own name?

The wheel does not know who is holding it, so when that happens the person adds their own name back and spins again. If the last person left is looking at their own name, the tidiest fix is to swap with whoever drew immediately before them.

Can the organiser see everyone's result?

The results tab keeps the draws made on that device, so for a properly secret draw each person should clear the result after their turn. Nothing is sent anywhere, but this is a wheel rather than a private pairing generator, and it is worth knowing the difference.

What about a team that is not in the same room?

Each person can open the shared link on their own device and spin in an agreed order, telling one coordinator which name went so it can be removed for the next spin. That needs someone running it, so for a very large group a live draw is still faster.
